Good day all.

I am new to this forum and I hope someone can help me with a few thing.

I resently bought a Nissan Hardbody 3.3 v6 4x4 2004 and I'm very impressed with the car, it has alot of power!!!

the garauge I bought it from gave me a 30 day warranty for any problems i find and they fix it for free. I'm not very good with car and i'm not sure what the problem is but let me try to explain.

when i change gears, its very noisey as if something is loose and if u stand outside you can hear it more clearly, its like a clicking sound from the bottom which i dont think is right. the other issue is when i start the car it sounds like something is scratching in the gear box but whe i start riding the noise become intermitted, the sound is something as if the gearbox has no oil or something but it doesnt sound very good. if i ride for a very long time then the noise goes way.

when i took the bakkie back, the machanic told me the following, the clicking noise i hear is the links in the gearbox but since when do you hear the links from outside the car????? the funny scratching noise he said is the 5th gear and is normal on all Hardbodies?????.

the final problem i noticed but havent taken it back for that yet is if i engage 4x4 and turn eith left or right then a click click click noise comes from my front diff, is this normal?

if someone can please help me with these issues before my 30 day warranty is over?

HELP!!!!!

I have seldom heard a so-called mechanic talk so much rubbish.

It sounds like there is a serious problem with your gearbox and/or clutch.
Links don't make a noise UNLESS thet are totally shot after 500,000 kms, and in any case, the shift lever enters the gearbox directly. This means your selector shafts are worn.
Noise at idle could also be the idler gear and mainshaft.

No, that gearbox won't last another 500kms.

Go to an independent gearbox shop IMMEDIATELY and get a second opinion. I have no idea where you are, but Centurion Gearbox is good, and maybe also Delports in JHB South. In fact, ANY gearbox workshop that advertises will be better than that monkey.

Second issue: the click click when in 4x4 is your front CV joints.

That Hardbody drivetrain is SHOT. Take it back, get a refund IMMEDIATELY.

If they won't do that, then make sure you get an independent report BEFORE and AFTER they "fix" the problems.

thanx jakeslouw.

do you maybe know how much it will cost for a gearbox place to look to see if there is something wrong?

BTW... the machanic that checked my car is the machanic that the garage uses to fix their cars, so somewhere they have an agreement.

thanx for the advise, will take my car back to them so that they can sort it out.

A good gearbox place won't charge for a simple opinion based on a good look around and a test drive. If you want a strip-down quote, then that's different, and you'll have to ask.

It will be cheaper getting a second hand gearbox from a scrapper or an importer.

I wouldn't trust that mechanic with my bicycle.

ha ha...yes ....we love photo's !!!

I agree with jakes.... that mechanic is pulling the wool over your eyes.

I know the AA will do a full technical report for about R1400. If you are an aa member its even cheaper. Then you have serious proof !!

Hi gohardbody, that mechanic is a bulls%*ter.....

Go direct to nearest AA shop, or Nissan dealership, this afternoon, or tomorrow morning. Do not wait. AA caught a problem in my van at 45 000km (when I bought it) - would have cost R 6000 to fix - it was fixed free of charge by seller. Van now at 327 000 km no issues. If your seller says they will fix, ask Retail Motor Industry Federation for guidance, ask for qualified gearbox, suspension, people to do the job. Otherwise you will end up with sawdust in your gearbox, motor. Angry

let us know where you are. send photo.

i have to agree with the guys here post pic lol but seriously it sounds like u might have a lmon on your hands, never trust the mkanik they send u to , go independant for a second opion. id also give the bakkie bak and ask to be refunded. if they dont go t the motor industry ombudsman to have them either fix it properly or give your oney back . id take the money and cut my losses and rather go lok for something else. HB gearboxes are normally quiet and strong and reliable, my first HB i sold at 385000km and never even changed the oil in the time i had it and it was quiet. and the clackety nois wen u turn CV joint is kaput and wen the feil the failbadly . listen to the guys here kyy jo geld terug

If i were in your shoes, it might be something simple or something bad.
Take it immediately to someone independant to give you advice. No one here can tell you whats wrong. It worthwhile paying R400 or so to get this info as a peace of mind, R400 or so can save you thousands in the end.
Be smart, do it now.
