Hi all, I will get the ball rolling on this one.Big Smile

Nissan 4x4 Club would like to enter 2 x 10 vehicle teams, on the day, to really make an impression. Nissan SA have agreed to this number, in terms of certain sponsorship for the day.

1) One team to be made up of Patrols & Safaris, etc, to take on the Land Cruisers, Discos, etc. A second team of HBs, Navarras, Pathfinders, etc, to take on the Hiluxes, KBs, etc. Ideally, at least 1 of the 20 teams should be a ladies team……use hubby’s vehicle?

2) To make sure we can enter 20 teams on the day, we realistically need 24 teams to volunteer, and arrive, for the day, in case of emergencies, breakdowns, etc - 2 vehicles/teams for each team as reserves.Ouch

3) Everyone driving must be members in good standing, and drivers must wear the new 4x4 shirts.

4) We also need 2 x non-driving marshalls for each team, who will understand the exact requirements per obstacle, penalties applicable, etc, who can share the walking of each obstacle with each vehicle, keep the markers fair (unlike our Gelandewagen friends…….)  Angry

5) We also need a good photographer, for pics/videos for the Nissan, and Nissan 4x4, website.Clap

6) We need to view (hopefully drive) the track, prior to the event, to understand the basic nature of the LA Sport track obstacles.

7) Then we should also set up a ’training’ day, or weekend, with a full day Saturday, half day Sunday, driving – at a venue that can also approximate the basic obstacles, approx 2 weeks prior to the event, to check vehicle readiness, responses, help increase driver skills, understanding, etc. WinkAlso drink beer!

Noel Jones and I agreed last year to drive as team – in the Hardbody group.

Who else will volunteer early, so we get a head start on the opposition?

Hello everyone

I have been to the opening event on Saturday 2010-06-12 as a spectator and I had a look at the obstacles that I could reach by foot - which is basically all of them at the start and around the "pit". The course starts with some "camel heaps" and on the day the vehicles with the longer footprint scratched on these - I refer to a brand new standard long wheel base Cruizer bakkie with an in-experienced driver as well as a Navara with suspension lift - if I am not mistaken it was OME but I stand to be corrected. Picture below:

The second obstacle is named the "mine shaft" and this is a very steep decline into the "pit" with some big cross over holes - 'oorkruisgate'. Some of the more inexperienced drivers went down here too fast and bumped all over the place.....

and

These 'gate' are much deeper than what the pic's show....the brand new Cruizer going down....

one of the Geladenwagens.....

A Sani (HB) preparing to go down the shaft.....

The Navara with the lift kit.....

On top of a steep incline leading to the mud pool....

A Geladenwagen (V8) in the mud hole - one of the few vehicles that manages to get out by itself....

another Geladenwagen that did not make it and that had to be rescued by the LA Sport Safari....

I might have missed a number of Nissans on the day but I remember seeing a green Terano on the course as well.

The obstacles following the mine shaft in the "pit" is also not too hectic although I saw a standard Ford Everest hanging itself up on one of the "camel backs".

My opinion - except for "mud hole" we will be able to complete the course successfully without damage to our vehicles - obviously depending on the deterioration of the track over the next month or so. In the event where the mine shaft and the 'pit' are going to be wet it will be a different story.

It might be worth while to go and do the track sometime DV in July - the entrance fee on Saturday was R100.00 per vehicle and if we are enough vehicles we might be able to negotiate with LA Sport for a reduced rate - I know some of the guys at LA Sport Silverlakes.

It will be interesting to hear from someone who drove the track on Saturday.

Regards,

Hi all,

Noel Jones and I also went a bit later, to view the entire offering prior to the event on 14 Aug. We met Johan and his wife (the green Terri) who drove the track, on their 36th wedding anniversary!Clap, said no problem except deep mud hole, where Gelandewagens had dug vertical face coming out..... Angry2010-06-14_052426_la_sport_opening_12_june_2010_011.jpg He will drive for us on 14 Aug. Saw lots of HBs, Sanis, wonder if they are part of the club??

Spoke to organisers re track for 14 Aug - they already decided to reduce the level of water in mud hole on the day2010-06-14_054733_la_sport_opening_12_june_2010_009.jpg, make a better exit slope, with rocks, etc, to gain traction. Every other obstacle seemed OK, no issues. 'Mine shaft' easy if you keep wheels turning. Prepared to offer discount for training drive, if more than 15 vehicles together - will advise. NB Mechanic from Voetspoere trip drives LA Sport recovery Safari as personal vehicle.....calls it his 'cruiser recovery vehicle' hehehehe....2010-06-14_054228_la_sport_opening_12_june_2010_020.jpg

Accomodation for camping over the 14 Aug weekend, is over the road (campers must be self sufficient, BYO, nice flat ground, pool, bar, braai facilities etc). Will post pics and videos on email. They will also arrange porta loos and showers, for the weekend. Looks good for weekend of camping, good security around property, nice owners.

Johan Badenhorst says hi to club, says looking forward to seeing LOTS of Patrols and Safaris on the day, says he missed the Patrol luxury, capability, while doing the Voetspore trip.
