Eastern Cape Trip December 2008Eastern Cape Trip / Photo Report December 2008 Compiled by Ross Holland We`ve just returned from a very relaxing Christmas holiday in the Eastern Cape. The highlights of our route included Baviaanskloof, Hogsback, the “Hole in the Wall” area of the Transkei, East London, and Grootbrak Rivier. Since neither Nicole or I have spent much time in the Eastern Cape we were really looking forward to exploring a “new” part of the country. We left Cape Town on the 17th of December, ....

Photos by the Hollands and Duncan Scott. 11 April 2008 After several months of anticipation and planning the 11th of April finally arrived, and despite my best efforts to keep business commitments under control, I found to my great dismay that I had to spend the morning tying up loose ends before we could begin packing the vehicle. Lesotho: It’s Definitely Worth a Visit

Lesotho: It’s Definitely Worth a VisitLesotho: It’s Definitely Worth a Visit as compiled by Chris Skinner Just thought I would post a bit of info on my trip to Lesotho last long week-end (10-12 Aug 07). A couple of young friends that I recently met up with again (at my 50th) invited me to join them in Lesotho last week-end. I had no hesitation in accepting as I have recently acquired a Patrol 4,5 GRX 2001 model – what an ideal opportunity to test it out on the long road, dirt road and a bit of off-road. ....

Swaziland Trip - August 2007Swaziland trip during the long weekend as compiled by Hendrik Behrtel (aka Wheels) We left home with a convoy of 10 cars on the Thursday and entered Swaziland via the Amsterdam border post. The border post was very quiet with most of the holiday makers entering Swaziland at Oshoek. We made camp on a farm called Kirk Hill farm outside Mbabane. From there you could see the devastation that the latest fires caused. Lots of black hills and burned forests. That evening we did ....

NamKga 2007 Trip Report NamKga 2007 Trip Report Compiled by Morne Stevens I have always wanted to do the Nossob 4x4 Eco trip and 2007 was the year for it to happen. Booking the tour is easy, but one of the requirements is to overnight at Nossob campsite the night before the start of the trail and Nossob was fully booked. It took a lot of organizing but eventually we got the confirmed booking and the rest of the trip could take shape. 29 June 2007 – CT to Springbok 550km A rather uneventful ....

Idler arm & drag link modifications

Compiled by Hannes la Grange

Much has been said about the draglink and idler arm and the wear experienced offroad especially when the vehicle is lifted up front. I have spent many Rands and time at Riaan’s wheel alignment trying to sort this mess out. Out of desperation and exasperation we tried many different methods and all we could find off the Internet and tried some mods over the years. The biggest problem was, and still is, to get the engineering shops to make ....

Mobile air compressors

Compiled by Morne Stevens - 05/01/2004

Whether it is on a day trip or an extended overlanding trip, the air compressor is required to reinflate the tyres after traversing certain terrain. Letting out air does not only give a bigger footprint but is also much "softer" on the environment. A further benefit is that a vehicle with lowered tyre pressures needs to labour far less due to the better traction and flotation in sandy conditions. Air compressors are also ....

Accessorizing a Patrol SGL 4.2 Petrol (GQ)

Photo’s and article content by Morné Stevens - submitted 21/06/2003

Equipping the Patrol for overlanding has been a considerable challenge. Information is scarce or non-existing in most cases. Most of the local suppliers have very little or no experience in the vehicle, which makes it difficult to find accessories or good advise.

Window Tinting
The cabin of the Patrol gets very hot while standing in the sun due to the dark green body colour. I decided ....

Lockright Locker installationLockright Locker installation (written by Hendrik Fourie aka Ostilion) This is one of those installations that sounds a lot more difficult, than it really is. Buks volunteered to help me, lucky me, he did this installation himself a couple of months ago, the installation took about 3 hours, including dinner, so without delay, this is the steps we followed. Pre-installation steps: Get yourself high quality diff oil, high temperature sealant and Lock-tite Step 1: First ....
