AGTERGROND:
| | | | | Botswana & Zambia - April/May 2009 |

Easter 2009 Trip to Mozambique
(as compiled by Brian aka oisin)
We (Brian, Barbara and son Michael) left Pretoria on 8 April and travelled to Dundee where we met another party in a Defender and camped overnight. Paul Garner, a local historian and raconteur met us at the campsite at 07.30 on Thursday morning and after coffee we left in a convoy to Rorke’s Drift (2 Defenders and our Nissan) where we settled down next to the Buffalo River and Paul took us through the history .... | | | | | Karee Krans 1-3 May 2009 |

Karee Krans 1-3 May 2009
(as compiled by Kobus Pienaar)
We arrived at Karee Krans just after 11h00 and pitched the tent before we had lunch.
Karee Krans have 3 4x4 trails numbered A ,B and C. As A is the longest so we decided to do B first as we where still waiting for one of our friends.
"A" and "B" start at the same point up an incline that is very rocky with an axle twister.
After turning right on the "B" route you ....

Eastern Cape Trip / Photo Report December 2008
Compiled by Ross Holland
We`ve just returned from a very relaxing Christmas holiday in the Eastern Cape. The highlights of our route included Baviaanskloof, Hogsback, the “Hole in the Wall” area of the Transkei, East London, and Grootbrak Rivier. Since neither Nicole or I have spent much time in the Eastern Cape we were really looking forward to exploring a “new” part of the country.
We left Cape Town on the 17th of December, .... | | | | | Botswana to Vic Falls -Nov 2008 |

| | | | | Botswana July 1976 |

Botswana Over landing in July 1976
Written September 2008 by Rod Crompton
This is a story about a Botswana trip done more than 30 years ago. We spent one month doing an over landing adventure in Botswana including visits to Nxai Pan, Maun, Okavango Swamps, Moremi and Savute. Its also probably a lesson about how not to go over landing in Botswana – today, or as they say “don’t try this at home”.
I don’t know if over landing holidays of the kind you see advertised today ....

Namibia Trip Report: 5 May – 3 June 2008
Gerard (aka chukkie) & Erna Schuite
The idea of this trip started 6 months prior to our departure. Being the first trip of this nature a lot of research and planning went into the route. Thinking back I figure that maybe the planning and bookings were to rigid, leaving no room to change plans as we travelled. Won’t make that mistake again!
We travelled with a Nissan HardBody 2.4i 4x2 and an Echo 3 off-road ....

Australia - October 2007 – Trip Report
submitted by Ross Holland
We’ve just had a fantastic month exploring parts of Australia, and I’ve finally gotten around to writing up the trip report. Of greatest interest to most on the forum will undoubtedly be our overland expedition in a rented 4x4 campervan through Tropical Northern Queensland, and up the Cape York Peninsula. I’ll focus the report mainly on that aspect of the trip, but for those who may be interested, I have also .... | | | | | Lesotho: It’s Definitely Worth a Visit |

Lesotho: It’s Definitely Worth a Visit
as compiled by Chris Skinner
Just thought I would post a bit of info on my trip to Lesotho last long week-end (10-12 Aug 07).
A couple of young friends that I recently met up with again (at my 50th) invited me to join them in Lesotho last week-end. I had no hesitation in accepting as I have recently acquired a Patrol 4,5 GRX 2001 model – what an ideal opportunity to test it out on the long road, dirt road and a bit of off-road. ....

as compiled by Hendrik Behrtel (aka Wheels)
We left home with a convoy of 10 cars on the Thursday and entered Swaziland via the Amsterdam border post. The border post was very quiet with most of the holiday makers entering Swaziland at Oshoek.
We made camp on a farm called Kirk Hill farm outside Mbabane. From there you could see the devastation that the latest fires caused. Lots of black hills and burned forests. That evening we did .... | | | | | Kgalagadi/Botswana Trip Julie 2007 |

Nissan Sani (D21) Snorkel for less than R400??
compiled by Ross Holland
Introduction
I have been thinking of fitting a snorkel to my trusty `89 2.4l Sani for some time, however there are two main problems that face owners of Nissan D21 spec 4x4`s who wish to fit a snorkel. The first is that as far as I can ascertain, no-one actually manufactures a kit specifically for these vehicles, so an adaptation of some other kit would need to be considered. The second problem .... | | | | | NamKga 2007 Trip Report |

I have always wanted to do the Nossob 4x4 Eco trip and 2007 was the year for it to happen. Booking the tour is easy, but one of the requirements is to overnight at Nossob campsite the night before the start of the trail and Nossob was fully booked. It took a lot of organizing but eventually we got the confirmed booking and the rest of the trip could take shape.

Werner came over the radio; “I have a flat”. The convoy stops and offers some assistance to Werner. The next message was said in pure dread; “I don’t have my spare wheel lock key”. Hours away from the closest town, the group set in for a long wait, finding shade where possible in the +40 degree temperatures. Greg set off with the damaged tyre to Steinkopf while some of the men took to the job of removing ....

Technical Articles 19 July 2005 | By: Hannes |
Compiled by Hannes la Grange
Much has been said about the draglink and idler arm and the wear experienced offroad especially when the vehicle is lifted up front. I have spent many Rands and time at Riaans wheel alignment trying to sort this mess out. Out of desperation and exasperation we tried many different methods and all we could find off the Internet and tried some mods over the years. The biggest problem was, and still is, to get the engineering shops to make .... | | | | | Mobile air compressors |
4x4 Articles 17 July 2005 | By: Bongani |
Compiled by Morne Stevens - 05/01/2004
Whether it is on a day trip or an extended overlanding trip, the air compressor is required to reinflate the tyres after traversing certain terrain. Letting out air does not only give a bigger footprint but is also much "softer" on the environment. A further benefit is that a vehicle with lowered tyre pressures needs to labour far less due to the better traction and flotation in sandy conditions. Air compressors are also ....

Photos and article content by Morné Stevens - submitted 21/06/2003
Equipping the Patrol for overlanding has been a considerable challenge. Information is scarce or non-existing in most cases. Most of the local suppliers have very little or no experience in the vehicle, which makes it difficult to find accessories or good advise.

This is one of those installations that sounds a lot more difficult, than it really is. Buks volunteered to help me, lucky me, he did this installation himself a couple of months ago, the installation took about 3 hours, including dinner, so without delay, this is the steps we followed.
